The War at Home Officially Began Today

September 1, 2010
Larry Winters

A large group of veterans is now entering the US. Our Military hospitals and Veterans Administration who represent our front line in helping soldiers has demonstrated over the last ten years they are not capable, they are underfunded, understaffed, and so far unsuccessful at treating Post Traumatic Disorder. There are numerous accounts demonstrating the inability of the VA in confronting the internal wars that continues to rage in our returning troops. What will the VA do with the massive numbers of vets who will be standing behind the returning soldiers already on their door steps? What has historically has absorbed returning soldiers in past wars is the job market; there is no job market. What the American people need to become aware of is that the war is entering their houses, their jobs, it rolls on their highways, and their green zones are about to be infiltrated by men and women who are still fighting on interior battlefields.

Veterans Day 2010
Larry Winters

On November 7th, the Afghanistan War will complete its 109th month, making it America's longest war. Our nation has been generating an ongoing steam of veterans for years. To date we have over twenty three million living vets and we are currently involved in two major wars. It has been all too easy for civilians to lose track of what our military has been doing. It has been said that we are suffering war burnout, so we have stopped listening. If this is true role reverse with a soldier who has been on her or his third tour of duty and you may begin to understand war burnout. With the advent of the volunteer military it is convenient to say they had a choice to go in. Did we have a choice about 911?

No veteran returns from war without some form of transformation occurring. The wars battlefields and all those that surround it becomes a catalyst of psychic and spiritual change. What many of those in society have used to protect themselves from the accountability of these wars is politics. Politics is not an excuse for giving up our responsibility to our returning veterans or what they have done on our behalf. What abundance we own as a nation has been protected by soldiers, the safety we enjoy has been made upon the lives of our troops, and the freedom we espouse to the world was made upon the battlefields by the members of our military. Put down your charcoaled burger, silence your political rant and honor the greatest sacrifice a human being can make the offer of their life for the safety of other.
