Odysseus
Mask created by Peter Pitzele Ph.D.
Author of Our Fathers' Wells: A personal encounter with the myths of Genesis. (Harper 1997)

Odysseus was the first warrior hero whose home-coming is told at length in western literature. Homer's Odyssey follows the hero through trial and tribulation as he makes his way home and then recovers his life there. This image you see here was made to honor my friend Larry Winters, his book and the story of his return. I call it Odysseus, and it is meant to evoke the veteran warrior whose dark face tells of unspeakable things he has seen and done and whose golden crown suggests that he is a bringer of wisdom, even of prophetic truth.
